El Lahun
El Lahun is a town situated on the right bank of Joseph's Canal, approximately halfway between Beni Suef and the Fayoum. It was known as Ro-hent in ancient times, meaning 'mouth of the canal' in Coptic, which is translated as Illahun. The town is famous for the Pyramid of Senwosret II, but there are also other interesting sights to explore. The hills surrounding the town are home to necropolises dating back to various eras, from pre-Dynastic to the Roman period. In addition, there is a 12th Dynasty mastaba to the west of the town, where Chancellor Inpy, the architect of Senwosret II's pyramid, was buried. Another nearby attraction is the ancient town of Kahun, which was established by Senwosret II for the workers of his pyramid.
