Sohag National Museum is a significant site dedicated to celebrating ancient Egyptian civilization in the region Sohag National Museum is a significant site dedicated to celebrating ancient Egyptian civilization in the region. Located right by the Nile, its design draws inspiration from traditional ancient Egyptian architecture. As you approach, you'll see four impressive statues of the lioness goddess Sekhmet at the entrance. Opened in 2018, the museum aims to protect and showcase treasures from early Egyptian settlements like Um El-Ka'ab, the temples of Abydos, and Osiris's burial site. It tells the story of Egyptian culture through exhibits on marriage contracts, local customs, and highlights the important role of women in Upper Egypt throughout history.


Suhag National Museum

The concept for the museum kicked off in 1993, aimed at showcasing the archaeological finds from Sohag Governorate. However, construction hit a snag and was on hold for a few years until things got moving again in 2016. It finally opened its doors in 2018, thanks to Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Its design is inspired by the Temple of King Seti I in Abydos. The museum features a basement and two upper floors, showcasing a variety of artifacts that highlight different aspects of life, such as notable kings and figures, social and family dynamics, ancient Egyptian food, crafts, textiles, heritage, and the history of the Haj Pilgrimage.
