Nefertari

Nefertari, also known as Nefertari Meritmut (It means the beloved of the goddess Mut), was an Egyptian queen and the first of the Great Royal Wives of Ramesses the Great. She is one of the best known Egyptian queens, among such women as Cleopatra, Nefertiti, and Hatshepsut. She was highly educated and able to both read and write hieroglyphs, a very rare skill at the time. She used these skills in her diplomatic work, corresponding with other prominent royals of the time. Her lavishly decorated tomb, QV66, is one of the largest and most spectacular in the Valley of the Queens, gorge in the hills along the western bank of the Nile River in Upper Egypt. Tomb of Nefertari

The tomb of Queen Nefertari (QV66), which is located in the Valley of the Queens, gorge in the hills along the western bank of the Nile River in Upper Egypt. Valley of the Queens on the west bank of Luxor, is one of the most spectacular tombs that you can visit in Egypt. Nefertari was the first queen and the most beloved wife of Ramesses II (also known as Ramesses the Great). Not only does she have one of the most exquisite tombs in the Used as a burial chamber for nearly 500 years, the Valley of the Kings was used for royal burials for the Kings,their families, and their possessions. The text above her states: Spoken by Ma'at, the daughter of Ra, I protect my daughter, the king's great wife, Nefertari, beloved of Mut.


Nefertari Tomb

The tomb of Queen Nefertari has many picturesque and attractive Pharaonic scenes, as the queen was interested in the Pharaonic drawings and wonderful inscriptions, especially the drawings of the columns of the burial chamber. The tomb has many other drawings related to the edifices that the Pharaohs believed existed in the other world, along with some magical spells and charms that worked to protect Queen Nefertari during her journey to her eternal residence in the other world.
