Anfushi Tombs

The Necropolis of Alanfoushi is situated close to the Eastern Harbour, in the Ras El Tin area. It consists of five Greek tombs that were carved into rocks and date back to around 250 BC, during the 2nd and 3rd centuries. These tombs, made of alabaster and marble, were only discovered in 1901 AD. Initially, two funeral structures were found, each containing two tombs. However, further excavation revealed a total of five funeral structures. The tombs are designed with an open courtyard surrounded by chambers that hold one or more burials. Inside the tombs, there are depictions of Egyptian gods like Osiris, Isis, Horus, and Anubis. These depictions are adorned with colorful geometric patterns and delicate fresco ornaments. In the first funeral building, there are two tombs that contain a granite sarcophagus and a burial chamber designed in the style of the Pharaohs.
